  1. A bit of darkroom trickery here.  I find that this type of
  2. picture never wins anything,  but is strong and tends to go well
  3. on an exhibition wall.

  5. During  club exhibitions which were open to the public I  used 
  6. to spend  time in the gallery watching the reaction of  visitors.
  7. It was  very interesting to note that it was often pictures that 
  8. had NOT  been  judged winners that actually attracted  most 
  9. attention from `Joe Public`.

  12. This  is one of the reasons that I like to come up with 
  13. different and/or unusual ideas.

  15. The  picture is a simple silhouette of a decorative ceramic 
  16. horse against  a white wall.  This was printed on a piece of hard
  17.  
  18. grade paper to get pure white and clean blacks.
  19.  
  20. Multigrade would now do this - grade 5

  23. The  moon was a large black BOTTLE,  placed on the  exposed 
  24. paper with  the  red enlarger filter in place to get the bottle 
  25. in  the right  position.  The  enlarger  was then  switched  off 
  26. and  the negative removed.

  28. Next, the enlarger was flashed on and off for a few seconds to
  29. fog the paper slightly.  Time was a result of previous tests with
  30. some scrap printing paper.
